Frequently asked questions
Is Pick & Cook free to use?
Yes! Pick & Cook is free to download from the App Store. Core features like barcode scanning, pantry management, and recipe discovery are all free.
How does barcode scanning work?
Point your phone's camera at a food product barcode. When the product is recognized, Pick & Cook suggests the item details so you can confirm them into your pantry. If a barcode isn't recognized, you can teach it once and it will be remembered next time.
How does receipt scanning work?
Snap a photo of your grocery receipt. Pick & Cook extracts the products it can read and suggests pantry matches — you review and confirm the suggested matches before anything is added to your pantry. Extraction can be incomplete or inaccurate, so please double-check the suggestions.
What cuisines are available?
Recipes span many world cuisines — including Italian, Mexican, Thai, Japanese, Indian, Mediterranean, and Chinese — with pantry-aware picks that favor what you already have. New recipes are added regularly.
Is it available on Android?
Pick & Cook is available on the App Store for iOS. On Android, you can use the web app at
app.pickcook.net from any browser — no install needed.
How does recipe matching work?
Pick & Cook compares the ingredients in your digital pantry against its recipe collection and shows a short Tonight list — up to three pantry-aware choices — highlighting exactly which ingredients you're missing for each.
How do shopping lists work?
Add a recipe's missing ingredients to your shopping list in one tap. The list automatically skips ingredients you already have in your pantry.
Installing & updating Pick & Cook
Installing on iPhone
Pick & Cook is available on the App Store. Open apps.apple.com/us/app/pick-cook on your iPhone (or search "Pick & Cook" in the App Store) and tap Get to install.
Getting the latest version
New versions ship through the App Store. Open the App Store app, tap your profile picture in the top right, scroll to "Available Updates," and tap Update next to Pick & Cook. If you have automatic updates enabled in iOS Settings, this happens for you in the background.
App crashed or got stuck
First, force-quit Pick & Cook and reopen it — most transient issues clear up after a restart. If the same screen keeps crashing, please send us a screenshot or short screen recording at admin@pickcook.net along with the steps that triggered the issue.
Account and data deletion
You can request deletion of your Pick & Cook account and all associated personal data at any time by emailing admin@pickcook.net from the address tied to your account, or by including your username in the message. We will permanently erase your personal data from our servers within 30 calendar days, in line with our Privacy Policy. Anonymized community contributions (such as product edits and barcode data) may be retained in de-identified form so that they can no longer be linked back to you.
